The Portia Geach Memorial Award is a celebration of female Australian artists. It’s Australia’s most prestigious portrait prize for female artists and has greatly contributed to the development of female artists in this country.
It was established by Florence Kate Geach in 1961 in memory of her sister, Portia Geach and is awarded each year to the best portrait painted from life of some man or woman distinguished in Art, Letters or the Sciences.
Are you eligible?
To be eligible for this award, you must be a female Australian resident who is either Australian born, British born or a naturalised Australian.

The award’s value
The recipient of the 2008 Portia Geach Memorial Award will receive $18,000.

24 September 2009 - Official opening and announcement of winner
25 September 2009 - Exhibition opens at the S.H Ervin Gallery, Watson Road, Observatory Hill, Sydney
8 November 2009 - Exhibition closes at the S.H Ervin Gallery, Sydney
