Assisting young, talented Australians in the arts

The Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarships provide support for students in a variety of categories to help them further their cultural education and achieve their dreams. They are awarded each year for study, maintenance and travel either in Australia or overseas.

John Chisholm Marten (1908 – 1966), who established these scholarships through his estate, had a life long interest in the arts and literature. The scholarships commenced in 1967.

Scholarships offered annually are in:

  • Singing
  • Instrumental Music
  • Painting

Scholarships offered every second year are in:

  • Sculpture
  • Architecture 
  • Poetry
  • Prose
  • Ballet 
  • Acting

Submissions for the 2009 Scholarships have now closed. The 2010 scholarships will be offered in: 

  • Acting
  • Instrumental Music 
  • Painting
  • Poetry
  • Prose
  • Singing

Are you eligible?
To be eligible for this award, you must be a native-born Australian aged 21-35 (17-35 for ballet) at the closing date of entries.

The scholarship’s value
As a guide, 13 scholarships were awarded in 2009 with each recipient receiving $25,000. These scholarships provided a total prize money of $325,000 for 2009.

How to apply
The 2010 application form will be available in June 2009. Interested parties can view the Terms and Conditions from the 2009 application form here or email trustwards@cauzgroup.com.au to register for a 2010 application form.

Closing date for entries is 30 October 2009.

All application forms must be submitted to the Cauz Group offices no later than 5.30pm on the closing date.
