Michael Kieran Harvey Scholarship

Recognising outstanding ability in pianists

The Michael Kieran Harvey Scholarship is awarded biennially to talented postgraduate piano students to help them further their career overseas.

It was created by Susan Mary Remington to celebrate the life and work of pianist Michael Kieran Harvey.

Each scholarship lasts two years and recognises outstanding ability and promise. Ideally, in addition to technical mastery of the piano, successful applicants will display originality, imagination, creativity and a history and future desire of pursuing directions relevant to the piano and music in the 21st century.

The scholarship was launched in 2006.

Are you eligible?
To be eligible for this award, you must be a postgraduate student and an Australian citizen.

The scholarship’s value
As a guide, the total value awarded for this scholarship in 2010 will be $40,000 paid over two years.

Applications for the 2012 scholarship will be available mid 2012.

The Michael Kieran Harvey Scholarship 2010 
 Congratulations to Zubin Kanga who was awarded the 2010 scholarship in Melbourne on 7 July 2010 after a captivating recital from scholarship namesake, pianist Michael Kieran Harvey.

Kanga is the third pianist to be awarded this scholarship for his extraordinary piano skills. Michael Kieran Harvey praised the winner's abilities "Zubin Kanga is quite simply an amazing, hugely gifted musician. His destiny as a major contributor to the wonderful universe of 21st century art music seems assured."

With the support of this scholarship, Kanga intends to arrange a complete solo recital of newly commissioned solo piano music, undertake an Australian tour of the program, collate two commercially available recordings and perform these and other works internationally. 

The Trust Company congratulates Kanga on his achievements to date and we look forward to following his future successes.
