Recognising outstanding ability in pianists

The Michael Kieran Harvey Scholarship is awarded biennially to talented postgraduate piano students to help them further their career overseas.

It was created by Susan Mary Remington to commemorate the life and work of pianist Michael Kieran Harvey.

Each scholarship lasts 2 years and recognises outstanding ability and promise. Ideally, in addition to technical mastery of the piano, successful applicants will display originality, imagination, creativity and a history and future desire of pursuing directions relevant to the piano and music in the 21st century.

The scholarship was launched in 2006.

Are you eligible?
To be eligible for this award, you must be a postgraduate student and an Australian citizen.

The scholarship’s value
As a guide, the total value awarded for this scholarship in 2010 will be $40,000 paid over two years.

The winner will be announced around July 2010.

All application forms and fees must be submitted to the Cauz Group offices no later than 5.30pm on the closing date.

Previous Winners

Trust congratulates Mr Ashley Hribar who won a two year Scholarship valued at $40,000.  Ashley will  be based in Europe for the next 24 months as a place of artistic stimulation and will undertake many innovative activities including:

  • The commissioning of a new program entitled Mystical Colors which presents works by Scriabin, Messiaen and new works of today’s composers, and is integrated with special coloured-lighting effects.
  • Collaboration with the Ensemble Integrales in a 2009 program devoted to Australian and American Music with works by Anthony Pateras and Matthew Shlomowitz.
  • An Australian tour in July 2009 of his program 21st Century Beats (an intention to bridge the gap between contemporary classical and contemporary popular music).  Venues will include: 
    • The New Music Network (Sydney)
    • Elder Hall School of Music (Adelaide)
    • Melbourne University Faculty of Music (Melbourne)
    • Monash Unviersity (Melbourne)
  • Developing his program New Australians consisting of Australian music working with Australian musicians and composers.

In 2006, Mr Cameron Roberts was awarded the inaugural Michael Kieran Harvey Scholarship.
